Full Description: Jake Taylor was a big solid d-man that, personally, I think would have made it to the NHL if not for two fluke injuries in his first two pro seasons. First, he took a puck to the face in practice (from coach Ryan McGill) that fractured his orbital bone and wiped out a good chunk of his rookie season.
The following season, Dan Carcillo sucker punched him and broke his face...again, forcing him to, temporarily, play a less physical game.
Then in his third season, he got hurt in training camp. I can not recall the exact circumstances, but it was equally fluky and unfortunate. He returned at the end of January and then blew out his shoulder at the start of March in a fight with Louis Robitaille -- season over.
By his fourth season, no longer eyed as a prospect, he was supplanted in the NYR depth chart by the likes of Marc Staal, Dan Girardi, and Michael Sauer so a change of scenery was much needed.
His first season under the Edmonton Oilers umbrella was interupted early with a knee injury that kept him out for all but 28 games. Shame, too, as he had impressed during the Oilers training camp.
This jersey is from the 2009 pre-season where Taylor played one game in the blue jersey -- September 16, 2009 against the Islanders. He was subsequently assigned to Springfield 5 days layer and remained in the AHL all season.
He never did reach the NHL during the regular season but, man, what a great guy off the ice too. Humble. Truly humble...and I cant say that about too may of the guys Ive photographed during my years working in Hartford.

Upon Jozef Balej's arrival in late March of 2004, the Hartford Civic Center crowd would be electirified each time the newly acquired number 15 carried the puck across the blue line.
His speed and finishing skill, not to mention his off-ice Euro style, were something rarely encountered in Hartford as he lit it up with 20 points in 21 games.

Full Description: In August of 1997, the front office staffs of the Hartford Wolf Pack and Beast of New Haven (both new teams for the 97-98 season) held a softball game to drum up fan interest.
At that time of the year, the front offices were not fully staffed for either team -- frankly, I don't recall ever seeing some of the folks that played on either team ever again -- and I'm not sure the event was much of a fanfest. Maybe 10 people in attendance.
One of the raffle prizes was a game jersey -- which I won. Odd that a Hartford employee would win a New Haven jersey but it is what it is. I received this jersey from the PR guy of the Beast prior to their first game in Hartford.
Hilariously, the Beast still did not have all of their uniforms from Bauer yet (they started the season wearing white practice jerseys for the first 7 games. The Wolf Pack, suffering the same issue, hastily had a set of jerseys made up by AthleticKnit that they wore in their Inaugural game.
So, yes, I had a full sewn game jersey in my hands before the actual team took the ice in full uniform.
Features the PHPA patch sewn to the hem but shows, obviously, zero wear.
